For more than 50 years, Salt Lake City has celebrated Sister City relationships with cities around the globe. These relationships provide respect, understanding, cooperation, humanitarian aid, dignitary visits, economic opportunities, educational exchanges and cultural understanding, with various governments and peoples.
To be official, a sister city relationship must have the endorsement of the local authorities, who support the efforts of community volunteers. Sister City resolutions are then signed by the highest elected officials. This process opens global initiatives for participation by all people at the local level-citizens, local governments, businesses, media, private voluntary organizations, and educational institutions.
Although overseen by cities' representatives, these relationships progress through the hard work of our citizen representatives who serve as board members. Our Sister Cities Board is made up of community representatives with strong ties and interests in the sister cities program. In addition to our Board, a group of local representatives works behind the scenes to accomplish the tasks that make these relationships work. For more information on individual Sister City relationships, or to become involved, please contact the chairperson for that city.
